Lesson:
Intro: Ask everyone to name some of their favorite foods. Emphasize that we each have different likes and dislikes and that's okay. Explain that tonight for our lesson we are going to talk about food and how it affects the bodies in our family.
Object Lesson:
Have some different types of food out, our fine mesh colander, and our regular colander.
What happens to our food when we put it in our mouth and start chewing it with our teeth? Does is stay whole like this, or does it get broken up into little pieces? (little pieces) Let's pretend that these little pieces are the food after it's all chewed by our teeth.
Where does our food go after it's broken up? (our tummy) Let's pretend that these two bowls are two different tummies - this one is Austin's (regular colander) and this one is Tanner's (fine mesh).
Watch what happens when the little pieces of food go into this tummy (use regular colander). See how it goes right through the tummy and into the rest of the body? This tummy can eat pretty much anything and still feel normal after because there's nothing sitting around behind to hurt it.
Watch happens when the little pieces of food go into this tummy (use fine mesh colander). What happened? Did all of the food go through or did some get left behind? (some got left behind) This tummy can't eat everything the other tummy can or else some of the food can get left behind and hurt it. All that stuff that gets left behind can also make yucky poops later on (or "fire ants" as Tanner describes it).
This is why Tanner and Davey cannot eat certain things. What are some of the things that could hurt Tanner's body if he eat too much of it? What about Davey?
Bear testimony of treating our bodies the best way we know how to.
