The Bible and Book of Mormon

Opening Prayer - Keith

Talent Time

Songs - Scripture Power

Lesson - Nicci

Attention Getter:

Blindfold the kids and tell them to try and walk from the couch to the tree all by themselves (represents going through life)

Do this again, this time with Mommy and Daddy giving instructions (represents having help from earthly parents)

Do this one more time, with Mommy and Daddy giving instructions, while holding on to the string (represents having something to guide us in addition to our parents and other leaders)

Explain that Mommy and Daddy want more than anything to help you through life, and to help you return to Heavenly Father. In addition, Heavenly Father has given us the scriptures to guide us.

Show the Bible and Book of Mormon and introduce their names (play a little quiz game)

Testimony

Activity - Coloring Page (Family Reading Scriptures Together)

Closing Prayer - Austin

Treat - Leftover Oreo Delight

The boys loved the string activity, although I'm pretty sure they are still a little too young to make a "connection" of that sort - but a good reminder for Keith and I.

Kind Words

Opening Songs
Austin/Tanner Choice
Kindness Begins With Me Children's Songbook #145

Opening Prayer

Talent Time

Lesson: Mommy

Ask your children what kindess is. Explain that kindess is being nice to people. (show a picture of Jesus) Jesus was always nice to everyone and we should try to be like Him. One way to show kindess is to speak nicely.

Object lesson: Filling Other's Jars
Have an empty cup for each person. Have chocolate chips to represent kind words and dried pinto beans to represent unkind words. Explain that when we talk to people we it's like putting something inside their cup. We either put something nice or something not nice. Give examples and put either chocolate chips or dried beans. Do the same thing practicing nice tones of voice and mean tones of voice.

Activity
Play "Kindness ball toss" by tossing a ball to someone in the family and saying something nice about that person. Prompt young children to say easy things like "Pretty eyes", "I love you", or "Nice shirt."

Craft
Help children to decorate their own cups

Closing Prayer

Treat
Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reflection: This lesson went really well. The boys loved role playing and coming up with kind things to say about each other. The week after we still had plenty of mean words said, but they knew what we were talking about when we reminded them to use kind words. Good reminder for Mom and Dad too.
